Culture Convenience Club Co., Ltd. (Head office: Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture; President and CEO: Yasunori Takahashi; hereinafter referred to as "CCC") will renovate "Kyoto TSUTAYA BOOKS," operated by TTC LIFESTYLE Co., Ltd. (Head office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Yamashita Kazuki), and will open "Kyoto IP Bookstore" on Tuesday, April 28, 2026. This will be the third "IP bookstore" following Shibuya (SHIBUYA TSUTAYA, Tokyo) and Osaka (TSUTAYA EBISUBASHI, Osaka), and will bring together Japan's leading IP entertainment content.
Kyoto TSUTAYA BOOKS opened in October 2023 with the concept of "creating a space where the tradition and cutting edge of art and culture resonate and enhance each other's value."Aiming to offer a wide range of historical traditions and cutting-edge culture, the store offers a wide range of art, from art-related books on contemporary art, architecture, and pop culture to crafts and stationery that showcase the beauty of Kyoto's handcrafted craftsmanship.
With this renewal, we aim to further evolve the art-themed "Kyoto TSUTAYA BOOKS" and will open the third "IP Bookstore" on the 6th floor of Kyoto Takashimaya S.C. [T8] as a pop culture hub that will mainly sell original goods based on a wide variety of IP content that represents Japan. Kyoto is one of Japan's leading "holy land of IP culture," with numerous anime and game production companies, art universities, and creators gathering together. By creating a space that offers new cultural experiences using IP as a starting point in this city that has nurtured a wide range of creativity for many years, we will further boost Kyoto's unique creative scene.
Features of "Kyoto IP Bookstore"
We have collaborated with a variety of IP content representing Japan, including manga, anime, games, and VTubers, and will offer a wide range of original products that will give you a taste of Kyoto's traditional Japanese culture. Through a variety of IP content that will appeal to foreign tourists as well, you can enjoy a unique experience that combines Japan's unique traditions with Japan's world-renowned cutting-edge pop culture and the charm of Kyoto. Furthermore, we will actively collaborate with young creators in Kyoto and develop original products together, aiming to discover young artists and provide a platform for them to shine.
Details of the IP entertainment content and collaborations that will be developed at "Kyoto IP Bookstore" will be announced in due course.
What is IP Bookstore?
"IP Bookstore" will launch in April 2024 with the theme "Create a world with what you love. The first store will be located on the 6th floor of SHIBUYA TSUTAYA, which has been renovated and reopened with the theme "SHIBUYA TSUTAYA IP Bookstore: SHIBUYA TSUTAYA 6F, QFRONT B2F-8F, 21-6 Udagawacho, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; https://shibuyatsutaya.tsite.jp/ip-shoten/), and in December 2024, the second store will be located on the first basement floor of TSUTAYA EBISUBASHI, TSUTAYA's flagship store in Osaka, located in the heart of Ebisubashi, Osaka (TSUTAYA EBISUBASHI Osaka IP Bookstore: TSUTAYA EBISUBASHI B1F, 1-8-19 Dotonbori, Chuo-ku, Osaka, Osaka Prefecture; http://tsutaya.jp/osaka_ip-shoten/).
The "IP Bookstore" is mainly made up of three areas: the "POP UP SHOP" which is updated monthly, the proposal-type corner "IP100", and the "Gallery" which displays large-scale special exhibitions, and sells mainly goods, comics, and other items. Many of the products sold are "IP Bookstore Original Limited Edition Products" produced by "IP Bookstore," and we offer a wide range of IP content that can only be purchased and experienced here, earning support from a wide range of customers, from core fans to overseas visitors.
